About the Sessions
Every session runs the same way: a real communications problem, a working AI system built live, and a set of templates you leave with. The format is deliberately unpolished — showing the process, including the friction, is part of the point.
Sessions are led by Michael MacLennan, who has spent the past two years building and testing AI systems for communications work at organisations ranging from global multinationals to NGOs. The material comes directly from that work — what's actually being deployed, what's failing, and what's worth your time.
If you've sat through AI presentations that left you with a slide deck and no clear next step, these sessions are built in direct response to that experience.
What to Expect
Sessions typically cover one of the following areas — though each is built around a specific, concrete use case rather than a broad topic:
- AI agent workflows — how to design and deploy multi-step AI systems for communications tasks
- Prompt architecture — structuring prompts for consistent, production-quality outputs
- Workflow automation — identifying where AI saves real time and where it creates new problems
- Governance and oversight — building human review into AI-assisted processes
Most sessions are 60–90 minutes, including a live build and Q&A. All include downloadable templates and prompts via Comms With AI.
Past Sessions
- The Data Lab — February 2026 Building AI Systems for Communications Teams: A Live Demonstration – A live session for The Data Lab's community, demonstrating how to build a working AI content system from scratch during the session itself. Participants left with a set of reusable templates and a framework for evaluating where AI fits in their own workflows.
